A national symbol steeped in history
The flag of Iran, adopted in 1980, consists of three horizontal stripes of green, white and red. Green symbolizes growth and happiness, white represents peace and friendship, and red evokes courage and bravery. In the center of the white stripe is the “Takbir” (Allahu Akbar) repeated 22 times in Kufic script, forming an elongated shape up and down. The flag also features a stylized red central emblem representing the tulip, a symbol of martyrdom.
