A national symbol steeped in history
Adopted in 1991, after independence from the Soviet Union, the flag of Uzbekistan is composed of three horizontal bands of blue, white and green, separated by thin red stripes. Blue represents the sky and water, symbols of life, while white symbolizes peace. Green represents nature and fertility, and the thin red lines symbolize the vital force of people. The shaft features a crescent moon accompanied by twelve stars, symbolizing independence and the sign of the country’s twelve regions.
