A National Symbol Steeped in History
The Philippines flag is unique with its two horizontal stripes of blue and red, and a white equilateral triangle at the hoist containing an eight-rayed golden sun with three golden stars at each point of the triangle. Blue represents peace and justice, red symbolizes courage and sacrifice, and white signifies equality and fraternity. The eight rays of the sun represent the eight provinces that initiated the revolution against Spain, and the three stars symbolize the three main islands of the Philippines: Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.
