A national symbol steeped in history
The flag of Azerbaijan, also known as the “Azerbaycan Bayragi”, is composed of three horizontal stripes: blue at the top, red in the center, and green at the bottom. There is also a white crescent and an eight-pointed star in the center of the red stripe. The blue represents Turkish culture, the red symbolizes modernization and the development of democracy, and the green evokes Islam. The crescent and star are traditional symbols of Islam, but also reflect the aspirations of the Azerbaijani people for freedom. The flag, adopted in 1918 and readopted in 1991 after the fall of the Soviet Union, embodies the national identity and values of the Azerbaijani people.
